On Sunday, June 9th, UUSM sent its largest contingent since pre-pandemic times to march as an official participant in the LA Pride parade. Faith In Action loaded up our rented truck with signs, banners, and all manner of colorful Pride paraphernalia from our cache of supplies and drove from Santa Monica to met the gathering group on Highland Ave. in Hollywood.
The team decorated our makeshift float, and waited in cooler-than-usual weather for a couple of hours until we were given the green light to go. Though the time from “check-in” to “step-off” felt unusually long this year, spirits were high and the crowd greeted us with cheers. We remain one of the very few faith communities to participate in Pride — and of course no other denomination can claim to have supported LGBTQ+ rights as forcefully and for as long.
Many thanks to all who joined us including parents and youth, Rev. Jeremiah, and Interim DRE Jessica Place.
