Join Lunches for Bunches Every Sunday after Worship

Volunteers making lunches for unhoused persons

UPDATE: NOVEMBER 2022

What can you do with $3? Help feed a homeless neighbor! Every Sunday, UUs of all ages gather to assemble lunches for our homeless neighbors in Santa Monica. It's one of UUSM's core Faith in Action programs and will have provided more than 2,000 meals by Christmastime.
But it's not free. And funds are running low. Please donate to support the Hunger Fund today. Here's how:
  • Zelle admin@uusm.org with the description Lunches for Bunches.
  • Donate on our website. (Select HUNGER FUND when prompted.)
  • Or sign up for ongoing giving through our Text-to-Give program.
    • Text the amount you want to give and the code HFC to 844-982-0209 (e.g., $3 HFC). You will then be invited to give weekly, monthly, annually, or one-time.

FAQ:

How much does it cost to feed 55 folks a week? $3 a meal. $165 a week. $710 a month.

What are we feeding them? High protein meals include a sandwich, fruit, and string cheese, plus chips, cookies, granola bars, and a drink.

Why The  People Concern Access Center? Because 125 folks show up there every day to access showers, laundry, mental health and substance abuse support, and case management services.

Who's running our program? A dozen volunteers act as hosts, purchasing food, organizing Sunday lunch assembly, and delivering meals to our friends at the Access Center. Want to join? We ask for a commitment of one hour a month purchasing, organizing, and delivering.

Who helps with assembly? Anyone who wants to make a difference in our larger community: new guests to UUSM, longtime members, introverts, kids with lots of energy, maybe even you.

Join us! Contact the Hunger Task Force.

Thank you!

MARCH 2022

Every day in Santa Monica, 120 of our homeless neighbors visit The People Concern’s Access Center at 503 Olympic Blvd. There they find showers, laundry facilities, meals, and personal goods. They have access there to case/care management, medical care, mental health services, substance use services, and financial support, as well as the opportunity to participate in life skills and wellness groups.

And every Monday, many are now receiving ample sack lunches made by their neighbors at 18th and Arizona.

A part of UU Santa Monica's Faith in Action program, Lunches for Bunches has been a tradition for many years. It’s a simple and wonderful way for church members of all ages to make an immediate difference in someone’s life.

We’re doing it every week because, frankly, people are hungry every week. We have an abundance of resources and helping hands. And our friends at The People Concern are appreciative of the support.

Join us on Sundays to assemble lunches at 11:30 under the shade structure on the patio.
