Join us! ??? December and January Youth RE Events

Kids spraying water in the garden; fun

First, a look back at October and November

Kids and families came to our multigenerational service for Día de los Muertos. Did you catch our older youth singing and lighting the chalice?

First Friday Fun & Games brought families out and gave the parents a bit of a break. We played Clue, Candyland, and generally made mayhem. Thanks so much to the Women+Community who hosted the evenings. Mark your calendars for February 3 and March 3. You can help host or bring your kids and neighbor kids. Contact the First Friday Fun folks to let us know how many.

Thanks to Master Gardener Liz Camp, we planted broccoli and salad greens in the garden one Sunday. We fed our worms and learned all about the critters eating our cabbages. We also learned about Guest at Your Table in November, and I hope you all were able to collect some funds that we can send to the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC). You’ll be able to turn in your Guest at Your Table boxes during the first three weeks of January.

So far in December

UUSM hosted an Our Whole Lives teacher training, kids frosted cookies for our hungry neighbors served by Grassroots Neighbors. GRN was so grateful for the holiday treats. Special thanks to Chris Brown and Lois Hutchinson for jumping in on a rainy day!

The following Sunday we talked about fire, how it brings light and warmth and community. We made fire salads. Both yummy and creative!

We’ll take a break from regular RE over the holiday, returning to activities January 8. But kids and families are invited to join the Women+Community for Christmas cookie baking and decorating on December 22 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. (Contact the Youth RE crew for more info.) And the December 18 and December 24 are intergenerational services.

Coming of Age & Our Whole Lives for 7th-9th grades

Coming of Age is off to a great start with two sessions already completed with the seventh to ninth graders. Thanks to JoAn Peters for leading the COA effort and Amy Brunell for being the first guest speaker.

The OWL program will launch in January. Thanks to Amy Thiel for leading our seventh to ninth grade OWL program!  We have exciting weekends planned in February and April for our COA and OWL youth. Stay tuned!
