- What resources are available if and when wage theft is discovered
- The timeline and process to recover lost wages
- What ICE can and cannot do in a workplace
- How to protect oneself in the event of an ICE interaction
This interactive presentation will help us all to uphold the worth and dignity of working people. Contact: justice@uusm.org. 7 to 9 pm.
Wednesday, October 10: A Year to Live
The Rev. Greg Ward begins A Year to Live, a 9-month class for those who are tired of waiting around for their “real life” to start. It is a class to jump-start us out of our ruts, our avoidance, our fears, our unrealistic fantasies, and to propel us into more acceptance, focus, intentionality, and accountability. We seek to surround ourselves with people who will love us and to become the people we’ve always wanted to be. Hard work. Sign up at the RE table Sundays or contact Rev. Greg. Meets monthly on second Wednesdays, 7 to 9 pm in Forbes.
Sunday, October 14: Right Relations Covenant Workshop
The Right Relations and RR Support teams will hold our third Covenant Workshop. This workshop addresses how we live out our covenantal commitments, focusing on the first two sections of the Covenant of Right Relations: Caring and Compassion, and Communication. These workshops are highly interactive and practical, intended for UUSM members and pledging Friends. Contact: rightrelations@uusm.org. 12:45 to 4 pm.
Wednesday, October 17: Statewide Ballot Measures – FIA/ Peace and Social Justice + League of Women Voters
Hosted by Faith In Action (FIA) with Peace and Social Justice (PSJ), the Santa Monica League of Women Voters will give a nonpartisan presentation on the November ballot measures. League members can assist with voter registration questions after the presentation; Oct. 22 is the deadline to register for this election. Contact: fia@uusm.org . 7 to 9 pm in the Sanctuary.
Saturday, October 20: Dining for Dollars Pancake Breakfast
Come and enjoy our famous pancakes, using the secret recipe of the late UUSM icon Dan Voegtlen. Fancy pancakes plus sides; perfect for both vegans and meat eaters! This year’s D4$ is hosted by UUSM’s Men’s Group. Didn’t get tickets back in the spring? Get them Sundays or at the big event; suggested donation $10. Parking available. 10 am to 11:30 am in Forbes.
Saturday, October 20: Conversations and Connections Workshop
Adult Religious Exploration hosts a new series to provide structure and opportunities for meaningful connections between individuals in our congregation. Within the context of small gatherings, we break off into pairs, encouraging conversation between us that deepens our connections. Each meeting will offer the opportunity to connect with at least three different people. We believe that as the number of one-to-one connections grows over time, there will be an expanding web of connections in our community based on trust and acceptance. Sign up at the RE Table in Forbes Hall after Sunday services, intended for UUSM members and pledging Friends. 12 to 2 pm in the Warren Mathews Conference Room.
