David Goetz’s plein-air paintings are on display on the UUSM Art Wall during September and October.
David Goetz was born and raised in Palo Alto, California by parents who encouraged creative pursuits. He holds a BFA from both the University of California, Santa Barbara and Art Center College of Design. Early in his career, he worked as a background painter for Don Bluth Productions, an animation company – and then for 26 years, as a production designer and concept illustrator at Walt Disney Feature Animation.
I paint outside on location, ‘en plein air.’ My paintings are about capturing the light, color and atmosphere of the landscape to communicate the mood of the scene and a sense of place.
It is a meditation that usually takes 2-3 hours. When I’ve finished, I feel a deep connection to the immediate environment, having studied it so intensely and closer to nature. Revisiting a painting, even years later, takes me back to a moment in time, the day and feeling of the place it was painted.
The exhibit will be on view on Sundays after the service, through the month of October. For all inquiries, please contact our Art Committee.
