May & June Art Wall: Lori Pollack

Join us after the service on Sunday, June 1, in Forbes Hall for a reception to welcome the Santa Monica watercolorist Lori Pollack, whose work will be on display at UUSM’s Art Wall during the months of May and June. The reception is free and open to the public.

Lori began her art studies as an undergrad in New York City. After moving to California she continued to expand her art education at Otis Art School and Santa Monica College. She has been a member of Women Painters West, the Pacific Art Guild, Valley Watercolor Society, and the South Bay Watercolor Society, and her paintings have been displayed in many local shows. Lori was an educator for over 30 years and most recently taught at Grant Elementary School in Santa Monica.

I strive to capture the essence of nature through the medium of watercolor paints. Using a slow, meditative approach of adding multiple layers of subtle hues, I work to capture the type of luminosity that can only be achieved with transparent pigments, pushing the colors just past reality to produce an eye-catching and unique result. I am inspired by the interplay of light and shadow, and  aim to make my brushstrokes reflect nature’s abundant beauty.

My favorite subjects are botanicals (flowers and succulents), landscapes, and seascapes. I present my paintings in three styles: framed in a traditional manner, attached to wooden cradles, and printed on metal.

Lori’s paintings have been used for cover art by the Federation of Women’s Clubs and Santa Monica College and have been purchased for several California healthcare and corporate facilities in California. She is currently represented by several galleries.

The exhibit is available to view on Sunday mornings after 11:30 am and by appointment until June 29, 2025. For all inquiries, please contact our Art Committee.
