For many years, UU Santa Monica has marched in the LA Pride parade to represent our values and proclaim that “we teach our kids love, not hate.” It’s a lively and fun event includes members and friends of all ages, people of all LGBTQIA+ identities and friends and allies.
LA Pride is one of the largest celebrations of LGBTQ+ pride in the world, and a historic event that has been held annually in Los Angeles or West Hollywood for over fifty years. UUSM is an official participant in the parade, which will be televised nationally on ABC News and Hulu, so it is a great opportunity to represent our congregation to the wider world!
Grab your UU apparel, creative messaging, hat, and water bottle! This year’s parade is again on Sunday morning, June 11th. We’ll have a pickup truck (our “float”) to decorate and signs to make and carry. The parade route is a 1.3 mile walk through the heart of Hollywood and is estimated to take about 40 min. Of course, there’s some gathering time before that and logistics, too. Then join us to “say gay,” proclaim that trans rights are human rights, and show up as one of the few (only?) liberal religious organizations at the event that Side with Love.
