In 1981, the Westside Food Bank (WSFB) was founded by the Westside Ecumenical Council, when several Westside social service agencies worked together to create a food bank warehouse that could deal with food purchases and collections on a larger scale than any single direct service agency could.
Now, the organization provides nutritious food for 72,000 households, which equates to 153,000 people in need, with the help of 60+ member agencies throughout its service area. They collaborate with a host of community coalitions and multi-sector partners to strengthen the food assistance network on a large scale. WSFB’s mission is to end hunger in our communities by providing access to free nutritious food through food acquisition and distribution, and by engaging the community and advocating for a strong food assistance network.
UU Santa Monica’s relationship with Westside Food Bank goes more than four decades. We collect nonperishable food each Sunday. And this month we’re again gathering money to help support the organization’s important work.
Generous Congregation
Our practice here at UUSM is to dedicate half of our non-pledge Sunday offerings to organizations doing work in the world that advances our Unitarian Universalist principles; the other 50% of the offering is used to support the life of our church.
UUSM’s Generous Congregation supports our church community. And together, we uplift the reach and impact of vital organizations doing work we could not do on our own. This month, half of our Sunday offerings will go to Westside Food Bank. Your support will help keep our vulnerable neighbors food secure.
Please consider supporting the mission of our church, and Westside Food Bank. To give right now, text “$10 GCC” to 844-982-0209. (One-time-only credit card registration required.)
