Green Living Invites You to a Community Meeting for Affordable Housing in Santa Monica on Saturday, December 6th

Speculative Design by KdA Architects from cloverfieldcommons.com website

Santa Monica Airport is scheduled to close in 2028 and the City of Santa Monica has begun planning for its future use. Several public workshops have focused on future use of the 197-acre airport, with many participants favoring a large park with related uses which can provide revenue to support the park. See the Santa Monica Airport Conversion Project website.

Cloverfield Commons is a group proposing to developing the airport site with a substantial amount of affordable housing in addition to a substantial public park. The housing would target many groups who have difficulty finding housing in Santa Monica, including many teachers, public employees, healthcare, hospitality, and others who work here. A variety of innovative housing types is envisioned, from car-light co-housing, to limited equity ownership family housing. UUSM’s Green Living Committee has endorsed the Cloverfield Commons effort for its sustainability and climate justice aspects.

To learn more about Cloverfield Commons’ proposal, please RSVP to attend our December 6 Community Meeting at 2 pm!
