December is a special time filled with winter holidays, and we’re looking forward to learning about a lot of them this year in Children & Youth RE! In addition to RE lessons about the common theme of light that is shared among celebrations of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, and Bodhi Day, we will be presenting a special holiday pageant on December 8th about “The Friendly Beasts” who share their stable with Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus. Our pageant will merge the UUSM tradition of the kids singing this lovely carol with new dramatic contributions (including a scene written by our middle/high schoolers!) that celebrate the UU values of generosity, justice, and transformation through a story that will be fun for all ages.
“The Friendly Beasts” will be performed by our Pre-K through High School kids as a part of our Sunday morning service — it’s a great day to bring a friend! “No rehearsal needed” roles are available for kids who want to jump in on the day of — just arrive by 10 am on December 8th to grab a costume! I’m so glad that UUSM is committed to multigenerational religious education, and these opportunities to bring all ages together during the worship service. We all have so much to learn from one another, and I hope everyone enjoys this opportunity to learn, laugh, and sing along with the young people in our community!
