OUR STRUGGLE WILL BE OUR FREEDOM

ONE SERVICE AT 10 AM
The Reverend Rae Huang, preaching
Abby Arnold, Worship Associate
“Why do people suffer?” has been a question that humans have asked for hundreds of years across all religions. On Labor Day, we will talk about the power that comes when we unite our suffering and struggle. The Rev. Rae Huang is a faith-rooted organizer with Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) and is an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church.

Sunday, September 9

Y’ALL COME BACK NOW, Y’HEAR?

ONE SERVICE AT 10 AM
The Reverend Greg Ward, preaching
The Reverend Kikanza Nuri-Robins, Worship Associate
Unitarian Universalist Minister and author Robert Fulghum once wrote that “Everything I Know I Learned in Kindergarten.” Maybe it’s something all ministers eventually recognize, but I now concede that many of the most profound lessons I learned stem from experiences I had when I was a boy. And most everything I learned about how to be a minister, and what a good church is, came from time I spent teaching RE.

Sunday, September 16 at UUSM

MAKING AMENDS

ONE SERVICE AT 10 AM
The Reverend Kikanza Nuri-Robins, preaching
Dorothy Steinicke, Worship Associate
If good fences make good neighbors, what can you say about the wall around your heart? During the Days of Awe, between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, we are invited to reflect on the unnecessary fences we have built or caused to be built, and to consider what we might do to mend them, lower them or just take them down. For what might you make amends?

Sunday, September 16 at Camp de Benneville Pines

TAKING THE RAP

ONE SERVICE AT 10 AM
The Reverend Greg Ward, preaching
Robin Stillwater, Worship Associate
We’ve all done things – or have been part of things – that went poorly. We’ve all, at times, hurt or disappointed people we respect or admire. Being able to see – and move – past that is more than a matter of time. It’s not simply “forgive and forget.” It’s a matter of understanding, accepting, owning, and starting again. This is a service about how Camp taught me about taking the rap and being part of rap groups.

Sunday, September 21

WATER AS A BRIDGE: WATER COMMUNION SUNDAY

TWO SERVICES AT 9 AM AND 11 AM
The Reverend Greg Ward, preaching
Robin Stillwater, Worship Associate
Water represents so many things to us as human beings. It is a source of life. It is also a source of beauty and play. It is also something that connects us. Perhaps this is why it is also a deeply symbolic and religious element. In this, our annual Water Communion ceremony, we will explore ways in which water helps and heals the mind, body, spirit, and communities of which we are a part. Please consider bringing some water that symbolizes that part of your life that is most important to you.

Sunday, September 28

Cassie Winters, Worship Associate
