OWL Teacher Training at UUSM

OWLs

Hello Community!

We love OWL!  We want to support OWL!  We are investigating holding an OWL (Our Whole Lives) teacher training for grades 7-9 and 10-12 right here at UU Santa Monica. Most likely, weekend training will happen in December or January.

Why are we doing this?  Well, we need more people trained up so we can offer this life-saving and enriching class to our kids and our community kids beyond our walls.  If we have more teachers, then this work will be lighter on all of us. Please consider becoming an OWL teacher.

This training would be for our community members who are interested, as well as other folks in the Greater Los Angeles Area UU Communities.  It’s a great event for us to offer and we have done it a lot in our community.

Please contact YouthRE and let us know if you are in!  And RSVP HERE to let us know what weekends are good for you!

Thank you!

I took Sex-Ed at ChurchWhat is OWL?

Our Whole Lives is a series of sexuality education curricula for five age groups: grades K-1, grades 5-6, grades 7-9, grades 10-12, and adults, (developed by and) used in schools, agencies, summer camps, in virtual classrooms and in Unitarian Universalist and UCC congregations across North America where it was originally developed.

Our Whole Lives helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality.

Our Whole Lives provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. Sessions are taught by co-ed teams of trained facilitators (church members) who have attended official OWL trainings.
