Please consider becoming an OWL teacher. Because all kids deserve age-appropriate sex ed.

We need more Our Whole Lives facilitators trained up, so we can offer this lifesaving and enriching class to UUSM kids and community kids beyond our walls. If we have more teachers, then this work will be lighter on all of us.

Now there’s an opportunity for YOU to become an OWL Facilitator. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Studio City will host OWL Facilitator Training for Elementary levels (grades K-1 and 4-6) on Friday, January 26 to Sunday January 28, 2024

When you’ve completed the weekend training, you’ll receive a facilitator certificate. Then next time we offer and elementary OWL class for kids, you’re in! This training is open to interested UUSM Members, as well as other folks in the Greater Los Angeles UU communities.

Please visit the UUSC website to apply or find more info. Thank you!

I took Sex-Ed at ChurchWhat is OWL?

Our Whole Lives is a series of sexuality education curricula for five age groups: grades K-1, grades 5-6, grades 7-9, grades 10-12, and adults, (developed by and) used in schools, agencies, summer camps, in virtual classrooms and in Unitarian Universalist and UCC congregations across North America where it was originally developed.

Our Whole Lives helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality.

Our Whole Lives provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. Sessions are taught by co-ed teams of trained facilitators (church members) who have attended official OWL trainings.
