Climate Justice Revival Review

Climate Justice is a crucially important topic to the futures of young people in our world, and at UUSM we are proud to say all ages took part in the Climate Justice Revival! On Saturday, September 27, a group of kids got together to learn about nature, share their emotions about the big topic of climate change, express themselves through words, movement, and art, and dream big about a just climate future!

Everyone had something to contribute – Alex, who loves to build with the train set, reminded us how important it is to expand public transportation! Zia painted an abstract canvas of greens and greys, which shows how pollution harms natural environments. Quinn helped lead our drum circle, introducing new rhythms as we sang our gratitude to the earth. Leo was on fire with lots of new ideas for building sustainable communities in our brainstorming game of “Mother Earth, May I.” Even baby Holly got her hands in the dirt to plant some drought-friendly herbs!

On Sunday, September 28, more kids joined in to help lead our Climate Justice Revival service. Theo showed off his dance moves while the choir sang about the earth, Ellie helped pass out water cups for a special ritual, Sebastian showed off his yoga moves during our time of meditation, and Emerson shared his passion for science! Everyone had the opportunity to contribute their special gifts to the UUSM community, and we all had a great time.

Thank you so much to all the volunteers who made this weekend possible, and to all the kids and parents who will continue their work as climate justice advocates far beyond this event!
