From Our President: June Events

Vilma Ortiz, 2025-26 Board President

June will be full of celebrations and goodbyes. It will be joyous and sad.

On Sunday, June 7, we will hold our annual business meeting. We will elect board members and members of the Leadership Development and Nominating Committee. We’ll also approve our budget for next year. So please attend the meeting and participate in the democratic life of our community.

Also on Sunday, June 7, we will take a photo of community. This will be part of our farewell gifts to Rev. Jeremiah and Rev. Kikanza. So, make it point to be in the courtyard at noon on Sunday to be part of the photo!

On Sunday, June 14, many from UUSM will march together in the LA Pride Parade. Rev. Kikanza will be in the pulpit.

On Sunday, June 21, Rev. Jeremiah will be in the pulpit for the last time. Following the service, we will have a reception celebrating Rev. Jeremiah’s seven years with us. Rev. Jeremiah will be moving on to their position as senior minister at University Unitarian Church in Seattle.

On Sunday, June 28, Rev. Kikanza will be in the pulpit for the last time. Following the service, we will have a reception for Rev. Kikanza. She has been part of our community for a decade, and we will miss her wisdom and humor in the pulpit.

As you can see, June will be full of celebrations of the religious leaders who have been vital to the health of our community. These are important parts of the process of saying goodbye.
