How does your garden grow? Do you have a bounty to share? You can help feed your neighbors in need. (You actually don’t even need a garden.)
The Unitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica has a new pick-up and distribution program that will take your extra produce and pantry items and deliver them to partner organizations fighting hunger on the Westside. You’ll find below a list of staples requested by our current partner, Grassroots Neighbors in Playa del Rey.
This local volunteer organization serves as a lifeline for 44 families experiencing food insecurity. These households receive free grocery deliveries on a regular basis, and Grassroots Neighbors is in urgent need of donations. With a long waiting list, demand is easily double what they can currently serve.
Want to join the program? Just harvest your backyard bounty, pick up some extra dry goods (again, the list is below), and then email hunger@uusm.org. Youth and young adults from UUSM’s Hunger Task Force will schedule a contactless pickup!
Together we can ease the suffering that surrounds us on all sides as we navigate these extraordinary times. Thank you!
