For all of July and August, we are participating in GLAM’s* Virtual SUUmmer Road Trip, which is taking us to worship in UU congregations across Greater Los Angeles. These services occur at 10:30 am (please note the new time) and can be accessed through Zoom each week.
Following each service, we are gathering with all of the other UUs present for a common Zoom coffee hour with breakout rooms to allow us to get to know our neighbors better. It’s interesting and fun!
Our GLAM Virtual SUUmmer Road Trip not only gives our staff and worship leaders a much needed break, but it also allows us to learn from our sibling congregations and to forge relationships across our congregations.
We plan to return to our sanctuary on Sunday, September 5th.

August Generous Congregation: Tonality (August 1) and the UUA Disaster Relief Fund
Our practice here at UUSM is to dedicate half of our non-pledge Sunday offerings to organizations doing work in the world that advances our Unitarian Universalist principles; the other 50% of the offering is used to support the life of our church.
Our collection on August 1 will help support Tonality, a Los Angeles-based vocal ensemble whose mission is to deliver authentic stories through voice and body to incite change, understanding, and dialogue. Our current music director, Saunder Choi, and our past music director, Zanaida Robles, are members of this award-winning choral group. Tonality performs a variety of pieces in various languages and musical styles in an effort to unify our community through social outreach and serve as a beacon of peace, empathy and justice.
Fifty percent of the remainder of the month’s offerings to UUSM (August 7-28) will go to support the UUA Disaster Relief Fund. Disasters impact our congregations and their communities with increasing rapidity. From natural disasters like wildfires and floods to human-caused calamities, UU congregations, their members, and their community partners bear the impacts. By aiding other congregations, we act through our faith and values. Donations from across the nation allow the national organization to respond quickly and flexibly.
