Message: “Women’s Liberation and Flower Communion” from Rev. Jeremiah Lal Shahbaz Kalendae

A message from the monthly “Creativity.” The liberal religious tradition catalyzed women’s liberation since its inception. What makes our spiritual heritage different from other religious movements in this regard? I was invited to reflect upon this question with the Beverly Hills Bar Association last month. Join us as we explore women’s liberation in UU history, culture, and theology. In honor of Mother’s Day, we will celebrate the tradition of Flower Communion this Sunday! Each person is encouraged to bring a special flower for the chancel ceremony and then return home with another unique flower from the congregation. Please bring one with you to church!

Message: “Creative Spirit” from Rev. Jeremiah Lal Shahbaz Kalendae

A message from the monthly “Creativity.” “Art as meditation reminds people –so that they will never forget – that the most beautiful thing a potter produces is… the potter,” reflected Vincent van Gogh. What is the connection between art and spirituality? How do we tap into our creative spirits to enrich our spiritual lives and transform ourselves and the world around us? Join us as we explore this month’s theme of creativity in our Sunday service.

Message: “What You Resist, Persists” from Rev. Dr. Kikanza Nuri-Robins

A message from the monthly “Resistance.” Have you ever gotten exactly what you didn’t want? Some people say that is the Law of Attraction. When you focus on what you don’t want, you often get just that. What are the implications of this principle for our Anti-Bias, Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression work? Are we focusing on the wrong things? Are we clear about what we actually want? Come, let us worship together and talk about it. Kikanza Nuri-Robins Amy Brunell

A message from the monthly “Resistance.” The Buddha taught the Sangha–the spiritual community–was a necessary dimension of enlightened living. Join us as we reflect upon the teachings of this great religious luminary and reflect upon the promises in our Covenant of Right Relations that bind us to each other and help us to follow the liberal religious spiritual path in our beloved community.

Message: “Our Living Earth” from Rev. Jeremiah Lal Shahbaz Kalendae

A message from the monthly “Resistance.” Our natural world is where many Unitarian Universalists encounter the Spirit of Life. From the beaches of the Santa Monica Bay to the pine forests of Camp de Benneville Pines, many discover the sacred in the stars above us and dirt beneath us. This multigenerational service will celebrate the interdependent web of all existence and remind us of our responsibility to it. (Earth Day – April 22) (Youth involvement)

Message: “Easter Celebration” from Rev. Jeremiah Lal Shahbaz Kalendae

A message from the monthly “Resistance.” Our congregation’s roots are in the life and ministry of the poor prophet from Galilee. After two thousand years, we might think we know all there is to know about him. This Easter Celebration, we will explore new Biblical research that paints a controversial and complex picture of one of the most influential figures in religious history.

Message: “The Soft Underbelly” from Rev. Dr. Kikanza Nuri-Robins

A message from the monthly “Resistance.” The soft underbelly of most things is the most tender and sometimes the most vulnerable. So we protect the underbelly. Rarely exposing it to the light. Never taking advantage of leading with perceived weakness. What does the underbelly of your existence represent? What part of yourself do you keep close to the ground? In the shadows? Sometimes your greatest strength comes from what you perceive to be your weakest area. What wondrous things might emerge from the most tender and vulnerable side of your yourself?

Message: “Finding Your Light: The Vulnerability of Radical Self Love” from Rev. Sara La Wall

A message from the monthly “Vulnerability.” In a culture which prides itself on the facade of effortless perfection, constantly suggesting we are not enough, self love can be a difficult practice. And yet, embracing self-love offers us a radical orientation to community, connection, interdependence, vulnerability, and deep spiritual growth. (Daylight Savings Time begins.)
