Join us for a potluck lunch under the shade structure followed by a brief talk on Witchcraft led by Judith Martin-Straw. Bring something to share or donate money to our supply fund.
Judith has been involved in multiple pagan communities since the 1990’s, and can share her own experiences with the craft.
As Halloween approaches, you will likely see many caricatures of witches; ask yourself where this comes from. An old woman, ostentatiously ugly with green skin and broken teeth, or a younger woman, hyper-sexualized, showing a lot of leg or cleavage. Putting women into categories that are specifically dehumanizing allows men to treat women as less than human. While the ‘burning times’ are hundreds of years in the past, the word “witch” is still considered an insult.
How and why women have been reclaiming that word is a starting point for discussion.
