Women+ Community Potluck

Join us under the shade structure at 12:15 pm. Bring food to share if you can.

Conversation: How can we commemorate our country’s 250 years in a manner that honors our UU values and promotes love, equity, and justice?

Below are our shared values from the UUA.

Love is the power that holds us together and is at the center of our shared values:

  • Interdependence: We honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.
  • Pluralism: We are all sacred beings, diverse in culture, experience, and theology.
  • Justice: We work to be diverse multicultural Beloved Communities where all feel welcome and can thrive.
  • Transformation: We adapt to the changing world.
  • Generosity: We cultivate a spirit of gratitude and hope.
  • Equity: We declare that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion.

Note: We (UUs) were there at the beginning and we are still here. 😊

Both Unitarians and Universalists were in action in the 1790s. John Murray, who helped to found Universalism in the US, was a chaplain in the Revolutionary War and was a central figure in the creation of the Universalist Church of America. On October 23, 1793, he became pastor of the Universalist Society of Boston where he served until 1809. Some of the signers of the constitution leaned heavily toward the Unitarian viewpoint including John Adams, John Quincey Adams (a fierce abolitionist), and James Madison (the champion of separation of church and state).

Come for what could be a very lively conversation!
