Sunday Service: Our Democracy and Bylaws

August 21, 2022 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae, preaching
Charles Haskell, Worship Associate

Our congregation is a democratic institution, and how we practice democracy as a beloved community is defined by our bylaws, covenants, and liberal religious values. Our Bylaws Refresh Task Force worked diligently to draft proposed bylaws for consideration at the next Special Meeting of the Congregation. Come learn more about this important developmental ministry work and our liberal religious commitment to democracy.

Rev. Jeremiah Kalendae serves as our Developmental Minister. Before arriving in Santa Monica, Jeremiah spend a decade ministering with congregations in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has served as a congregational minister, community minister, chaplain, and as a member of the adjunct faculty at our Unitarian Universalist theological school in Berkeley. He holds a Master of Divinity degree in theology and ministry from Starr King School for the Ministry, a Master of Social Work degree from Case Western Reserve University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Baldwin-Wallace University. In addition to being a Unitarian Universalist minister, Jeremiah is a dervish in the Chishtī Order of Sufism. His spiritual background includes Hinduism, Buddhism, Earth-based, and Humanistic spiritualities. In his free time, he enjoys being in nature and, especially, near the ocean, yoga, meditation, social justice activism, vegan cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
