Science Nonfiction Book Group “The Devil’s Element”

Booklovers come together to explore science and history topics in-depth.

We will discuss The Devil’s Element: Phosphorus and a World out of Balance by Dan Egan.

In addition to being the component of matches that makes the fire, phosphorus is the “P” in the fertilizer NPK. Just as the green revolution has required more energy, it has required more phosphorus. Extra fertilizer run-off, and its phosphorus is the cause of algal blooms – and so much more.
