Intergenerational Field Trip to Community Services Unlimited, Saturday July 22

Attention UUSM Green Committee, Peace & Social Justice Committee, Hunger, Task Force, and all the Youth Religious Exploration volunteers and families:

We are taking a “field trip” to Community Services Unlimited on Saturday (not Sunday) July 22. We will tour the Paul Robeson Wellness Center, which includes a Village Market,  Cafe, community center, health and food programs, a museum of Black activism, a seed library, and the famous Veggie Bus.  Please plan to join us and stay for lunch (contributions encouraged). Kids eat free! Bring cash or credit cards for lunch or take-home extras, coffee, ice cream, and other treats and produce.

UUSM has been working with CSU for many years, supporting their mission to empower communities to address inequalities and systemic barriers that make sustainable communities and self-reliant lifestyles unattainable. Their Growing Healthy program engages youth in urban farming and food-based learning to help them adopt a healthier lifestyle and develop a awareness around food access and environmental justice issues impacting their communities. Several UUSM families receive weekly deliveries of fresh, organic produce grown by CSU.

We will carpool from UU Santa Monica at 1260 18th Street, leaving at 10:15 am. We should be back on the Westside before 2:00 pm.

Address: 6569 S Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90044 by 11:00 am for a tour of the their facility.  Please RSVP to greenchair@uusm.org at least one day ahead if you need a ride or can offer a ride; and let us know if you want the catered lunch. Parking is limited (none onsite) so carpooling is strongly recommended.

Note that there will be no Youth RE programming during services on Sunday 7/23; however childcare will be available.
