CANCELLED: Hiking Group

The March 1 adventure to Solstice Canyon is cancelled in favor of the March for Dignity, and because of doubts that the PCH will be open. Stay tuned for a reschedule in April!

Conditions permitting (PCH is open and there is no rain), join us for a hike at Solstice Canyon on Saturday, March 1. RSVP to greenchair@uusm.org.

We plan to meet at 9:00 at the 17th and Broadway Metro Parking lot (because parking is free on Saturdays), take the metro (at approx. 9:18 am) to downtown Santa Monica, and catch the 134 bus (at approx. 9:39) up PCH, getting off at Solstice Canyon. From the bus stop it’s about 1/2 miles to the park entrance (with nearby bathrooms), and then about 1.3 miles to the end of the trail, for a total round trip hike of about 3.6 miles, mostly on fire roads with a very slight incline.

The trail runs along a creek and ends at the ruins of Roberts Ranch House, called the Tropical Terrace, with a small waterfall. Allison will give a short tour of the ruins.

We’ll either eat lunch at the ruins or return to the entrance to find a bench, then catch the bus and the metro back to 17th and Broadway.

Remember to bring the following: hiking shoes, water, hat, lunch, jacket, and a camera or cell phone.
