Green Committee Solstice Canyon Hike

Join the Green Committee and hikers on Saturday May 16 for a visit to Solstice Canyon in a continuation of our series “Visit Parks by Bus”
We will meet at 8:40 at 5th and Colorado (across Colorado from the metro station) to catch the 8:51 departure of Los Angeles #134. After an approximate 1 hour bus ride up PCH, we’ll debark at Corral/Solstice Canyon, then walk approximately 1/2 mile along the county road to the park entrance (where there are restrooms). From the entrance we’ll walk 1.3 miles along a fairly level fire road beside Solstice Canyon creek. At the destination we’ll explore the ruins of the Tropical Terrace/Roberts Ranch House, designed by architect Paul Williams, and view a small waterfall. Allison Kendall has offered give a short tour. We’ll either eat lunch at the ruins or return to the park entrance to join anyone who wants to shorten their hike.
Pack water, a lunch and wear good hiking shoes. This hike isn’t steep, but it is a long distance if you’re not used to hiking. The bus is $1.75 each way (unless you have a senior pass) and the metro is an additional $1.75 each way. One-day passes are available.
Small note: I plan take the metro to the bus stop. If anyone wants to join me at at Expo/Sepulveda, parking is free on weekends. I will help buying a TAP card if you let me know.
LARGE NOTE: Red Flag (fire) condition or rain cancels. Please RSVP to greenchair@uusm.org so that we can update you on conditions.
