Artist Reception: Bettye Barclay
August 13, 2023 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
FreeUnitarian Universalist Community Church of Santa Monica will host a reception for artist Bettye Barclay, whose paintings hang on our Art Wall throughout August and September. The event will be held after our worship service on Sunday, August 13, 2023, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm in Forbes Hall.
Her current exhibit, Through the Years, includes examples of Bettye’s work in various media. She was first invited to display her acrylic and collage Mandalas in 2007, and a few years later, Seasons of the Heart, a series of raku wall pieces, followed. At that time, Bettye became a UUSM member.
Her displays have included watercolor paintings, acrylic, silk paintings, collage, and fused glass wall pieces. Creating art adds much pleasure and meaning to her life, and sharing it on the art wall increases the joy for her. Through the Years has a double meaning for Bettye. Recently while digging through boxes buried deep in her garage storage, she suddenly felt as if she was at an archaeological dig. She found clay pieces made long ago. At the Art Wall Reception on August 13, she will have an assortment of my clay pieces including some recently “excavated” that are examples of her work with clay over time.
As a “thank you” to UUSM in appreciation for the celebration of her artwork since her first exhibit so many years ago, all proceeds from this exhibit will be donated to UUSM except for the State of California for the sales tax included in the purchase price.
The reception is free and open to the public, and the artist will donate a percentage of her profits to support our congregation.
The exhibit is open on Sunday mornings after 10:00 am. To schedule a viewing during business hours, please call Esther Chase at (310) 829-5436 x100.
