We are excited for the opportunity to gather as a congregation again over the weekend of October 2-4 at our beautiful Camp de Benneville Pines.
Camp is a special place where Unitarian Universalists have gathered for more than 60 years. It’s a place where we get to foster meaningful connections between families and friends of all ages. It’s a chance to unplug from the pace of daily life in a mountain setting. It’s an opportunity to strengthen our bonds as a congregation as Rev. Diana is expected to join us. We will also share the facility with UU congregations from Studio City, Chalice UU, and others from the L.A. Valley Cluster of congregations. Part of Camp’s magic is to help us meet and build connections with UUs from around the country and beyond.
As always, members of our congregation and others will plan a series of workshops, talking and listening sessions, yoga, archery, swimming, arts and crafts (for kids and adults), and of course, tie-dye! The joy of Camp is that participants are encouraged to as do as much or as little as feels comfortable for you. There’s plenty of places for private walks and plenty of gazebos and decks for quieter moments.
Also as always, we will have cafeteria-style food service. We sleep in large cabins with private rooms for families (some adult campers will share rooms) and shared indoor bathrooms complete with toilets and hot showers.
We will gather starting at about 4 p.m. on Friday, October 2 through about noon on Sunday, October 4.
Camp sits on a 14.5-acre site in the San Bernardino National Forest, it’s about 3 hours northeast of our church in Santa Monica and is located in Angelus Oaks, CA. The camp sits at 6800-feet, which means all attendees must take high-altitude considerations into account for their health.
The cost of attending the weekend is:
- Adults: $199
- Teens: $169
- Children: $139
- Kids under 2 are free
UUSM has scholarship opportunities to help offset the cost of attending. We will organize car pools to assist congregants with transportation to Camp.
Cynthia Littleton, UUSM’s Camp liaison, will be at a table in the courtyard after services starting August 6 to take signups and answer any questions about Camp. Please also feel free to email Cynthia at debenneville@uusm.org
Can’t wait to see you up the mountain!
