There’s an old “You might be a Unitarian…” joke that goes something like: “If you get emails from committees you didn’t know you were on, you might be a Unitarian.” It usually gets a laugh because everyone knows UUs have a lot of committees, and it can sometimes be challenging or even confusing to keep up with what they all do and who’s involved with what. The UU Congregation of Santa Monica is no exception, but we want everyone to get the right emails and have an opportunity to get to know our community groups better!
As we kick off the new congregational year at Ingathering on Sunday, Sep. 13th, everyone is invited to join in an Opportunities Fair in Forbes Hall and outside on the patio. Whether you might be new to UUSM or a longtime member, this is a chance to learn about our many committees, teams, and activity groups all in one place — meet the people, find something that interests you, and perhaps sign up for something new.
Whether we gather for spiritual exploration, for social justice, for arts, or for so many different ways to serve, there are numerous ways to give back, to create deeper connections with others, and to grow with your community.
The Opportunities Fair will take place starting immediately after the service at approximately 11:30AM and go until 1PM. Appetizers and small plates will be served. Committee chairs and members will be on hand to chat informally about what they do and how it all fits together. It’s a chance to get to know your congregation a bit better and to enjoy community.
And with just a bit of effort and a little luck, you might win a prize!
