Planning An Affordable and Sustainable Santa Monica
August 29 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us at 1 pm on Saturday August 29 for a presentation by UCLA graduate students of their Site Planning Studio project which explored the potential redevelopment of the “Urban Edge” northern portion of Santa Monica Airport and the Santa Monica Business Park located between Ocean Park Boulevard and the Airport. The Santa Monica Airport will close in 2028, and a variety of market rate housing projects have been proposed recently at the Business Park.
The students’ projects explore the possibilities for this area including a mix of housing types from senior, student, family, affordable and market rate housing along with a network of pedestrian, bicycle and transit access and a rich mix of cultural, community, retail and workplace uses.
This event is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Community Church Green Living Committee. It continues a discussion begun at UUSM in December 2025 about the many workers and potential and longtime community members unable to find affordable housing in Santa Monica and the Westside.
RSVP to Alison Kendall, Green Living Chair at greenchair@uusm.org
Parking is restricted on nearby streets. Limited disabled parking is available behind the church. Please carpool, take transit, bicycle or walk if possible.
